A group of eminent visionaries hailing from different socio economic and cultural environment including specially trained and experienced professionals in the field of special education joined together, by taking in to consideration this as their self responsibility, at CIG complex Calicut to do certain awareness programs for the disabled.
The first awareness camp for the Hearing Impaired was conducted at MSS auditorium in the year 2004.Then frequent awareness classes, leadership training, motivation camps were also conducted at CIG complex, Ram Mohan Road Calicut.
The researches and studies conducted by this group later realized the fact that mere awareness camps will not be sufficient to make them dignified citizens. This thought lead to the formation of Ability Foundation for the Disabled.
State wise summits of Hearing Impaired were conducted at Calicut, Panamaram (Waynad, Kottakkal (Malappuram) and Trissur. National seminar was held at Jayanthi auditorium, Calicut.
Ability foundation for the Disabled registered under societies registration act on 13/8/2009 vide no. 228/09. Mr. Ahammadkutty Karuthedath (Chairman) Mr.NM Abdul Jaleel (vice Chairman), Mr Basheer Ahammed (Secretary) Mr. IP. Abdussalam (Treasurer) were the first office bearers. Dr.Hussain Madavoor, C.P Umer Sullami and Mujeebu Rahman Kinalur were selected as its Patrons.
Society started functioning with the establishment of Ability Institute for the Hearing Impaired in a temporary building at Kallai, Calicut in the year 2009.
Finishing School, Personality classes, vocational trades such as Computer training, Fashion designing and Aluminium and fibre fabrication were the courses. Under Graduate classes started in the year 2011.
In the year 2012, the Institute was shifted from Calicut to Pulikkal panchayath of Malappuram District.
Janab Abdul Rahim Haji k had donated 18 cents of his land at Kanchirathadayi ,Pulikkal , later expanded and known as Ability Campus. Foundation stone of Ability Institute for Hearing impaired at this plot was laid down by Jb Mammunni Haji MLA on 27th November 2011.
2.32 acres of land adjacent to the 18 cents were purchased by the society for the development of various dream projects. The Ground floor of the Ability Institute was inaugurated on 15/8/2013 by Janab.P.K.Kunjalikutty, Hon. Minister for Industries, Government of Kerala.
Janab KB. Kabir Sahib had laid the foundation stone of the Bairuha Guidance Centre on 15/8/2013. Inauguration of the building also was made by him on 29th November 2014.
Started Development Centre for Visually Challenged such as Guidance Centre, Computer Training Centre, Braille literacy Centre, Braille transcription Centre Urava Audio book Library.
Started vocational Trainig for Visually Challenged and Hearing Impaired.
Started Short stay home Development Centre for the visually challenged Girls.
Vocational training center was inaugurated by Mr. Moideenkutty alias Bava Haji Kutoor on Started Training center for Paraplegia section on 26th December 2015.
Ability arts fest 2016 celebrated on 14th and 15th August 2016. Which was inaugurated by Dr.KT Jaleel, Hon.Minister for Public Administration, Govt. of Kerala.
Inaugurated Juma Khuthuba by Dr.Hussain Madavoor with facilities for interpretation in to sign language simultaneously, which became part of history as the first of this type in India and Asia.
Abdul Rahim Haji had again donated 18 cents of Land to the ability foundation.
Hostel for the Girls was inaugurated by CP Umer Sullami on Urava talking book library, affiliated to the District Library Council, was inaugurated by The Public function was inaugurated by Mr.P Abdul Hameed MLA
Purchased 2.71 acres of land also adjacent to the Ability Institute.
Since there was no affiliated College for hearing impaired under the jurisdiction of University of Calicut and was found very essential, we applied for affiliation of Arts and Science College for Hearing Impaired.
University of Calicut has accorded affiliation to the college as a self finance college for Hearing Impaired by name ABILITY ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE FOR HEARING IMPAIRED.
BSc Computer Science and B Com with co operation are the present courses. More courses will be started from next year onwards.
We are indebted to the various Non Resident Indian Elites for the co operation, assistance, and support extended to materialize our projects and programs , especially to Janab Easa Sahib, KB Kabeer sahib, Shamsudheen Olakara and Hussain Almuftha of Qatar, Janab Parappurath Musthafa (Dubai) Indian Islahi Centre Workers Jidha etc.
